A : Montessori education was founded in 1907 by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first woman in Italy to become a physician. She based her educational methods on scientific observation of children’s learning processes. Dr. Montessori designed a “prepared environment” in which children could freely choose from a number of developmentally appropriate activities which are made out of natural, aesthetic materials such as wood rather than plastic.
Q : What is Montessori Curriculum/ Method?
A : The Montessori method views the child as the one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It attempts to develop children physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively.
Q : Montessori or Play based Preschool?
A : Montessori preschools are organized into five curriculum areas: language, maths, practical life, sensorial and culture. Play-based centers may also be arranged into areas or stations based on activities or themes they wish to choose.
